This beautiful monastery is located at a strategic location on the hill of Durpin in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India, hence, locally known as the Durpin Goempa (Goempa meaning monastery). The actually Buddhist name of the monastery is Zang Thok Palri Phodrang which on direct translation means the 'Abode of Guru-Rinpoche'. The invasion of Tibet caused many Tibetan Buddhist masters to flee the country to preserve and protect their own culture, heritage and religion. This monastery is a beautiful example of what was rebuilt in India after the invasion of Tibet. The monastery was consecrated in 1976 by the H.H The Dalai Lama.
